Preventative and Wellness Care

Hamilton Road Animal Hospital in Columbus, OH, can assist with all of your pet’s preventative and wellness care needs. Our wellness care services include detailed, comprehensive examinations that allow our trained veterinary staff to detect health complications and nutritional counseling to help pets stay at a healthy weight. Preventative care encompasses vaccines and parasite prevention.

These services are vital to your pet’s health as without them, you may not even know your beloved animal has a problem, and their quality of life and happiness will take a turn for the worse. Our veterinarians and staff do not want that to happen, so we encourage you to set up appointments for these essential services for your beloved pet.

Spay and Neuter Surgery

To spay or neuter a pet is an important decision for many pet owners. Veterinarians strongly encourage that you have your pet spayed or neutered as it provides a range of benefits. A benefit of this service is that it helps control the animal population. Unfortunately, many animals are left in animal shelters every year, and they all want to have a comfortable home and a loving family. If you are not interested in caring for a litter, you can do your part in preventing sending more animals to animal shelters.

Although slowing down the pet overpopulation problem is important, the health benefits of spay and neuter surgery are many. For female pets, spaying can prevent uterine infections and breast cancer and can stop the howl mating calls. Male dogs that are neutered are less likely to develop testicular cancer or prostate gland problems. Neutering also helps curb many unwanted behaviors, including the urge to roam and certain aggressive behaviors. In addition to these benefits, spay and neuter surgery can extend the life of pets.

Parasite Control

Regardless of the many safe and effective treatments available, parasites, both internal and external, are common in pets. They wreak havoc on your pet’s health and well-being and cause painful symptoms and other complications. The best way to prevent any parasite from taking hold of your animal is prevention. At Hamilton Road Animal Hospital in Columbus, we have the necessary preventative care products that can protect your pet from internal and external parasites. We also can provide quality medical treatments should your animal companion develop a parasite infestation.

Pet Dental Care

Many pet owners do not realize that pets need dental care just like humans. Dental cleanings, repairs, and ongoing oral health care are vital to your pet’s overall health. Dental problems like a buildup of plaque and tartar can lead to gum disease, which is known to cause bad breath, loose teeth, inflamed and bleeding gums. The infection can also travel through the blood stream to other parts of the body and cause damage to vital organs. Taking the necessary steps to prevent this from happening can help your pet to live healthier and happier life.
